Revolting youth take central Bristol

Here is a fine report on the 24 November Bristol protest, and here a statement from the successful occupation of Bristol Uni student union. Meanwhile the occupation at UWE continues. Here is an interesting comment on the violence on demos debate. Here is a good article on the recent history of the policing of protests. Continue reading

Eat the rich this Halloween

The LibDemCons worst nightmare – anarchists zombies in the area!

Bristol AF and ABC groups invite you to an (almost) apolitical zombie nite fundraiser this Halloween, down at our favourite undead venue, the Kebele social centre. There will be films from 4pm until late, with the usual Sunday vegan meal served around 6.30pm, plus all evening there’ll be cakes, popcorn and various dubious liquids. Continue reading

The role of prisoner support groups

At the London Anarchist Bookfair this coming Saturday, 23 October, Brighton & Bristol ABC groups are both running stalls, and are also holding an open meeting titled ‘What is the role of the Anarchist Black Cross?’

It is from 1pm to 1.50pm in Room 325, 3rd floor of the Engineering building. Here’s the text for the meeting:

‘What is the role of the Anarchist Black Cross? Comrades are invited to consider what is the role of the ABC in the current UK context? What can be done to build a militant prisoner solidarity network? There will be brief introductions to the history of the ABC, and the changes to its role in the UK over the last 20 years. Then let the debate rage!’

A comrade from Brighton ABC has also had the following article published in Freedom newspaper, 9 October issue (page 4). We hope it’ll get the discussion going. Have a read…

What is the role of the ABC? Continue reading

October 2010 prisoner list and letter-writing night

Our monthly public letter-writing sesion takes place on Wednesday 13 October, from 7 to 9pm, at 28 Portland Square, St Pauls, Bristol, BS2 8RU (ring the olde bell on the green side door and say you’ve come for the ABC event).

All those with an interest in supporting anarchist, class struggle and other radical prisoners…are very welcome. We will provide paper/cards and enelopes, but welcome donations towards postage.

This month we will be focusing on the dire situation of Jock Palfreeman, currently serving 20 years in a Bulgarian prison. Jock has an appeal against his sentence starting on 21 October, and now is the time to increase pressure on the Bulgarian authorities to demand justice for Jock. See his campaign website and our previous posts on Jock for more info.

We will of course be encouraging people to write to other prisoners and find out about their situations. We have now updated our monthly list of UK and international prisoners. Feel free to print it off and circulate it amongst your friends, fellow workers and campaign groups. It is availabe here:
As a pdf – Oct 2010 prisoner list
As an open office doc – Oct 2010 prisoner list
Until all are free!

Free Jock Palfreeman

Self-defence is NO offence.
An International Week of Action has been called by Jock’s supporters for the 15 to 20 October 2010 in the run up to Jock’s appeal (probably the one and only appeal!) on 21 October. See Jock’s campaign website, and see our previous articles about him.

Jock is a young Australian anti-fascist imprisoned for 20 years in Bulgaria, after being convicted of killing a right-wing football hooligan, and wounding another. Prior to visiting Bulgaria in 2007, Jock had lived for a while in Bristol, where he got involved in a number of campaigns. A number of Bristolians visited Bulgaria at the same time as him. The full callout for solidarity with Jock is below, but first here’s a few Bristol events to get the ball rolling, along with a local flyer (pdf download) Jock_flyer: Continue reading

For those of you who can’t make it or can’t wait till then to write to prisoners, here’s our updated prisoner list: Sept 2010 Prisoner List.

Before the letter writing night we’ll also be having a stall at the Anarchist Bookfair in Hamilton House this Saturday 11th September: details here.
